Carla Gaskin Charles
Clinical Psychologist

Clinic Days: Thu, Fri
I’m a Clinical Psychologist who has experience across public and private settings, including in community mental health, youth and family mental health and psycho-oncology.
I work with adults navigating complex emotions and relationship patterns, particularly those caught between different ways of being. I work well with people for whom intense emotions feel overwhelming, who are emerging from harmful family systems, who find themselves between classes or communities, or whose inner experience doesn’t fit conventional categories. Together, we can figure out how past experiences shape present relationships with yourself and others, and how to reclaim autonomy in this process.
My approach is intuitive and creative, I love finding patterns and connections which help illuminate different aspects of your experience. I draw from a few different evidence-based practices and try to use these to create space to explore feelings and experiences without judgment. I like to work with people longer-term, as I believe change unfolds over time through sustained relationship.
My approach is informed by theories of the psychological and neurophysiological effects of traumatic experiences throughout the lifespan, and I draw from such therapeutic modalities as Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Relational psychodynamic psychotherapy, and Systemic Family Therapy. I take a collaborative, attachment informed approach to foster meaningful change and development.
I work with: anxiety and depression, neurodiversity , questions of gender and sexuality, eating disorders, acute and complex trauma, mood and personality disorders, substance use and suicidality, difficulties with sense of self and relationship difficulties.
