Elle Brake
Clinical Psychologist

Clinic Days: Tue Wed

Elle holds a masters degree in clinical psychology from the University of Technology Sydney. She is registered with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulatory Agency (AHPRA) and is a member of the Australian Clinical Psychology Association (ACPA).

Elle works primarily with adults experiencing depression, anxiety, stress, adjustment to changing life events, emotion regulation difficulties, grief & loss, complex trauma, self-esteem challenges, and interpersonal/ relationship concerns.

In conjunction with her work at My Space Psychology, Elle works at the Royal Hospital for Women within the Perinatal Mental Health team providing support to women and couples during pregnancy and postpartum, as well as families receiving care in the newborn intensive care unit (NICU). She has a special interest in perinatal mental health and adjustment, and has experience working with fertility challenges, perinatal loss, birth trauma, maternal ambivalence, and stress related to complex or high risk pregnancies.

Elle works collaboratively from an attachment perspective in both short and longer-term therapy frameworks. She places an emphasis on understanding the links between an individual’s past experiences and their present concerns in order to support them to move forward in a personally fulfilling and meaningful direction. She sees her clients as the experts on themselves and her role as one of supporting them to re-engage with that wisdom within themselves.

She draws on a range of evidence based treatments including; cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), schema therapy, eye movement and desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR), and compassion focused therapy (CFT). She is also a registered Circle of Security (COS) facilitator, which enables her to offer a relationship based early intervention program designed to enhance attachment security between parents and their children. Elle’s clients might describe her as warm, validating, curious and insightful, as well as fond of the use of humour (at times!) and metaphor in session.
